Unicellular (made of one cell) and Multicellular (more than one cell) Eukaryotes (have a nucleus) Live in moist environments

Animal Like Protists are called Protozoans
Animal Like Protists are called Protozoans. They are unicellular and are classified into four groups based on the way they move and live. 1. Sarcodines (have pseudopods) 2. Ciliates (have cilia) 3. Flagellates (have flagella) 4. Protozoans that are Parasites

1. Sarcodines Move using PSEUDOPODS (“false feet”), bulges of the cell membrane Example: AMOEBA Pseudopod

2. Ciliates Move using CILIA, tiny hair-like projections that move in a wavelike motion, acting like oars Example: PARAMECIUM Cilia

3. Flagellates Move using FLAGELLA, a long, whip-like structure Example: Giardia Symbiosis- a close relationship in which at least one of the species benefits Ex: Flagellates that live in the intestines of termintes Mutualism- A type of symbiosis in which both partners benefit from living together

4. Parasites- characterized more by the way they live than how they move Parasites that feed on the cells and fluids of their host Example: PLASMODIUM (causes malaria) Transmitted by mosquitoes

Surrounded by plates of armor and two flagella -They look like spinning tops when they move!

Euglenoids- green, unicellular algae found
in fresh water They can be autotrophs and heterotrophs! Check out the Euglena’s eyespot!

Red Algae- multicellular seaweeds
Green Algae- multicellular and unicellular Brown Algae- have many plant like structures
