“Labels” are the Daretolearn (Gmail) equivalent of your Cabinet folders in GroupWise There are a few system labels already present There are a few system labels already present Can choose which to show/hide Can choose which to show/hide Can add your own personal labels Can add your own personal labels

Creating and Applying Labels From your inbox window, click on the widget icon next to your username and choose ‘Mail Settings.’ Then click on the ‘Labels’ link/tab

Creating and Applying Labels Your system labels appear first You can show or hide based on preference Bold is current setting Link is option to which it can be changed

Creating and Applying Labels Your personal labels section is below the system section. To create a new label, simply click in the field with the text, ‘Create a new label’ and type a title for it. Choose options for the label as desired. Label title will appear in folders list on left side of screen Label will show Next to message when applied Remove label completely

Creating and Applying Labels Formatting labels – When first created, the labels will have no color assigned to them When first created, the labels will have no color assigned to them Click the drop down arrow to the left of the label title to choose formatting options Click the drop down arrow to the left of the label title to choose formatting options These options you already selected, but can change.

Creating and Applying Labels Applying labels To apply a label, simply click, hold and drag the label to the email subject on which you would like the label placed To apply a label, simply click, hold and drag the label to the email subject on which you would like the label placed For multiple emails, check the boxes of all emails requiring the same label, then drag a label to any one of them For multiple emails, check the boxes of all emails requiring the same label, then drag a label to any one of them The label will apply to all checked emails

Archiving emails Once you have applied a label, if you archive it, it will disappear from your inbox, but still be located in the “label” box (folder) Once you have applied a label, if you archive it, it will disappear from your inbox, but still be located in the “label” box (folder) Check the email(s) you would like to archive and click the archive button located above your email list Check the email(s) you would like to archive and click the archive button located above your email list You can archive an email without applying a label to it You can archive an email without applying a label to it Will have to use the search bar above your email to find it again.

To unarchive an unlabeled email… 1.Type in search criteria in the field provided a)If labeled, just go to that label/folder…no need to search 2.Click the ‘Search Mail’ button 3.Select the message 4.Click the ‘Move to Inbox’ button

Automatically applying labels You can have a label attach to specific email(s) based on rules that you set up You can have a label attach to specific email(s) based on rules that you set up For example, you might have a label set up titled “Tech” for all emails received from the tech. coord. Go into your Mail Settings again and click on the Filters tab (see slide 4) Click the link titled, ‘Create a new filter’ Click the link titled, ‘Create a new filter’

Creating and Applying Labels Select the appropriate action(s) for the filter For the example given, you would choose, ‘Apply the label,’ and choose the label, ‘Tech’ For the example given, you would choose, ‘Apply the label,’ and choose the label, ‘Tech’ If you have emails that already fit the filter, you can choose to apply as soon as you click, ‘Create Filter’
