2
What is Climate Change? The changing of weather patterns over periods ranging from decades to millions of years.
3
Causes Factors that can shape climate change are called Climate forcings. These include processes such as variations in solar radiation, variations in Earth’s orbit, mountain- building and changes in greenhouse gas concentrations.
4
Causes (Con’t) The Sun is the predominant source for energy for the Earth. Approximately 4 billion years, the energy output of the sun increased atmospheric composition changed.
5
Plate Tectonics The position of the continents determines the geometry of the oceans and therefore influences patterns of ocean circulation. The locations of the seas are important in controlling the transfer of heat and moisture across the globe.
6
Human Influences Increase in carbon dioxide levels due to emissions from fossil fuel combustion, followed by aerosols. Other factors include land use, ozone depletion, animal agriculture.
7
How can we fix these problems? Being more Eco-friendly: Recycling, Planting trees, Turning off all lights in and around your household when not in use. Using solar power, wing energy, hydroelectric energy.
