CAR-DAPT CHARLEY HO, RUTH BRAM, ALBERTO GUZMAN

The User Design Influence: Every car has an owner who uses it for specific purposes such as business, travel, and leisure. The owner of the car may be a family of drivers that includes a spouse and teenager who also desire to drive the car. Each driver has personal car settings making it difficult for three people to share one car and still enjoy a personalized experience. In addition, it can be difficult to communicate sharing of the car between all members. Fig. 1: A family of multiple drivers (Dad, Mom, Son).

The Brilliant IDEA! Not every family can afford the luxury of having a dedicated car for each driver. The Car-Dapt allows a car to interface with a phone and adapt to every driver’s personalized car settings (mirror, seats, radio) so that each driver can feel like they have a car to themselves. The Car- Dapt also syncs calendars, so that destination can automatically be transferred to the car’s GPS, and it has automatic help alerts if there is an emergency. The Car-Dapt can also communicate scheduling and permission requests when car sharing between multiple users. The Car- Dapt is a one-stop solution adapting to each driver’s car preferences and make the driving experience unique and safe for each driver in the family.

The Technology The Car-Dapt interface utilizes the phone of each driver as a key to unlock the door, start the car, and adapt his/her personal car settings. Pairing is as easy as pressing a single button on your phone! Once you do, a screen will say “Congratulations, you just Car-Dapted your phone!” Fig. 1. 5 The Technology Once the driver’s car and phone “Car-Dapt” (pair), each driver’s personal settings stay synced to the Car-Dapt cloud so that each time each ride is unique to the individual’s preference. It is easy to communicate sync information with other drivers, because all data is stored in the cloud

Sally’s Day (Mom)  Sally goes shopping  When Sally unlocks the car, it adjusts to her preferences and the radio turns on to her favorite Pandora station.  When Sally comes back to the car after doing groceries, she finds that the car won’t start.  Sally uses Car-Dapt’s help menu to automatically alert Peter and send a help notification to the nearest auto shop.
