BEAL BANK 52nd REGIONAL SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING FAIR l International Science & Engineering Fair Estimated 1.5 million projects in 40 countries l Our Regional Base: 8 counties 8 counties 600 schools 600 schools 50,000 students l Approximately 800 students here today who have already won at school and district fairs.

FAIR JUDGING ROUNDS FAIR JUDGING ROUNDS l 1 st Round 9 am to 11:45 am (all judges). Interview, pick top 3 projects in your group. Interview, pick top 3 projects in your group. l Captain submits MASTER LIST to Central Admin desk by 11:45 am, continues on with 2 nd Round (multi-group categories). l 2 nd Round Captains rank top 3 projects & Honorable Mentions in Science Category. FAIR JUDGING NOTES l Judge unattended projects NOT They are eligible for Science Category Honorable Mentions but NOT 1st, 2nd,3rd l GREEN dot projects have passed ISEF rules RED dot projects have failed ISEF rules RED Interview students with RED dot projects NOT but do NOT award them any prizes.

SPECIAL AWARD JUDGING l There are no restrictions on which projects may receive Special Awards l Special Award organizations should use their own criteria for deciding winners l Special Award results are due by 1:00 pm at the Special Awards desk 1:00 pm at the Special Awards desk

JUDGING TEAM PROJECTS l Two or three students in a Team. l Include all members in the interview to ensure each contributed to the project. l The final work should reflect the coordinated efforts of all team members. l Fair Judges – Note different ISEF scoring Use BLUE scoresheets Use BLUE scoresheets

Judging “DO’s” l Discuss the project with the student. l Only one Judge at a project at one time l Budget 8-10 minutes for each project. l Complete notes, evaluations & scoring away from the student. l Remember your interview is a memorable experience for the student.

JUDGING “DON’TS” l Ask about parents or school l Judge someone you know l Fill out forms in front of the student l Discuss your judging process with students/parents/teachers later students/parents/teachers later

BE SENSITIVE! l Consider the age and maturity of the student. l Be aware of the student’s knowledge level. l Be respectful : please discuss, not lecture, in your interview. l Remember this is serious competition for them.

FAIR JUDGING CAPTAINS’ RESPONSIBILITIES l Leadership, discussion, consensus building, ranking and accuracy l Arbitrate differences of opinion l Listen closely for public address announcements l MAINTAIN THE TIMETABLE

FAIR JUDGING CAPTAINS’ RESPONSIBILITIES l Begin judging when released at 9 am - no need to get student phone numbers - no need to get student phone numbers l Return MASTER LIST with Round 1 results to Central Admin desk by 11:45 am l Continue on immediately with Round 2 - another team member can substitute l Return MASTER LISTS with Round 2 results by 12:45 pm, BEFORE going to lunch
