A Day in Kindergarten
3
8:10 Morning Bell In Kindergarten we line up a lot: We line up when the first bell rings in the morning at 8:10.
4
Morning Routines After we enter our classroom, we sign in, choose our lunch and take care of our classroom jobs.
5
Integrated Math and Science and Social Studies Explorations During our mid day centers we explore Math, which often integrates Science, Social Studies, and Art.
6
PE and Outside Play After we have worked in our room for a while, it is time to take a break and go outside for PE and outdoor play.
7
Snack Math After all that exercise we are hungry, back inside! But first we have to figure out to how to divide the snack so there is enough for everyone! Yummy!
8
Reading, Writing, and Drawing connected to Science, Social Studies, and integrated Technology After we finish our morning work, we learn about words, letters, and sounds by reading and writing throughout the curriculum. We explore many themes, such as life cycles, celebrations, and authors.
9
Literacy and Thematic Centers… Literacy centers are part of that work: listening to stories, using the classroom computers, reading books, writing in our journals, manipulating letters, words into sentences, and much more…
10
Lunch Time After our work is done, we clean up and line up for lunch. In the cafeteria we pick up our lunch and pay for it.
11
Read Draw Rest Time After lunch we play outside until the bell rings and we line up outside to come back inside. We cool down by listening to a story, reading a book, coloring a picture, or resting quietly.
12
Lots of Specials Every day we participate in one of our “Specials” such as Music with a music teacher, Art with our resident artist, organized P.E., Computer Lab, and Library for a story and book checkout.
13
Enrichment – Individualized Support 1:30 to 2:00 is our school-wide “Enrichment” period. During this uninterrupted time we focus on reviewing and reinforcing our developing literacy skills.
14
Getting Ready to Go Home At the end of each day, we clean our room, talk about our day, collect our belongings, and line up to go home.
15
Parent Pickup, Bus, Van We dismiss outside – every kindergartner knows to wait until he or she sees his or her adult, and gives the teacher a high five before leaving. Some kids leave with the bus or in a day care van.
16
Can’t wait to see you soon! Kindergarten is so much fun!
