What are genetics? noun ( used with a singular verb ) 1. Biology. the science of heredity, dealing with resemblances and differences of related organisms resulting from the interaction of their genes and the environment.

Basics of genetics DNA is the material that carries genetic information. Genes are what makes us who we are. Our genes are inherited from our parents. But mutations can cause our genes to be altered.

What I learned from my article Researches are trying to find the genes behind familial migraines. Some researchers have found SNPs that may cause migraines but since genetic screening is so expensive it is hard for others to replicate their experiment and end up with the same results. Also, some families might have rare mutations in their genes that are hard to compare to other families.
