What Birds Of Prey Eat And How They Catch It By Jeff And Ryan

Birds of prey eat small birds, reptiles, and small mammals.

Raptors aren’t a specific bird. They are a group of birds that are birds of prey. This group includes many types of hawks, eagles, owls, falcons, and osprey.

An example of a raptor is an Bald Eagle. Eagles hunt frogs, fish, snakes, lizards, medium-sized fish, rats, and mice. Eagles are diurnal. Diurnal means they hunt during the day.

Eagles are also scavengers. This means that they will look an eat for any dead creatures. Unlike most raptors they will eat it even if its not a fresh kill. It could be really old and they would still eat it.

Since the Eagles will eat anything that’s dead, it will help the ecosystem because they get rid of the dead carcasses in the wild. Examples Of Ecosystems A Representation Of health, because the Eagles make the ecosystem healthy

They make short flights to the ground to seize their prey on the ground and water. With their feet, they squeeze their prey until it dies. Once they catch their prey, they take it away to a close area and start to devour and eat it.

Some other raptors don’t flap their wing like other birds. They glide by riding thermals. Thermals are columns of warm air that rise from the ground and go really high. By using these thermals to glide, they can travel for miles while searching for food.

When they eat the bones and fur, they regurgitate it 16-18 hours later. Even though they regurgitate the bones, they still get calcium from them.

The overall role of these predators is regulate the population of the ecosystems. The predators are also scavengers and decomposers of the wild.

That is our answer to the birds of prey question
