Line Line is the distance between two points. It can have many qualities. Lines can be thick, thin, wavy, straight, jagged, smooth, curved, or dotted. They can be in any direction. Horizontal lines suggest calmness, stability and tranquility. Vertical lines gives a feeling of balance, strength and alertness. Diagonal lines suggest movement and action. http://hmkart.pbworks.com Value Value is the lightness or darkness of a color. It can be achieved by pressing harder or lighter when drawing or coloring to create shadows and highlights in an artwork. http://hmkart.pbworks.com Image: http://www.dawnsbrain.com/?p=8

Principles of Design Balance is the comfortable arrangement of things in art. Contrast is the differences between elements in a work of art. Emphasis is the creation of a focal area in a work of art. Movement is how we get around in a work of art. Patterns decorate surfaces with planned, repeated units. Rhythm is the repetition of shapes, lines, forms, shapes, lines, forms… Unity means that all is in harmony. Variety adds interest. http://deeterdude.wikispaces.com/file/view/Crystal_Principles216.jpg/265779414/893x699/Crystal_Principles216.jpg
