5 The Industry and Technology  58% of people in the industry are professionals/associate professionals – most from science and engineering disciplines  R&D required in – adaptation of overseas testing technology development and improvement of testing methods automation of testing process 5

6  Hong Kong Council for Testing and Certification submitted a Report containing recommendations to further develop the industry to the Chief Executive on 31 March 2010.  Government has accepted all the recommendations  Vision – Hong Kong to develop into a testing and certification hub in the region by reinforcing the branding of “Tested in Hong Kong, Certified in Hong Kong.” 6 Three-Year Development Plan

7 7 Making general improvements to :  accreditation service  factors of production of the industry : manpower technology capital land Dual Approach – General Front

8 Assist the industry to seize further business opportunities in four selected trades: Chinese medicine construction materials food jewellery and two emerging trades: information and communications technologies environmental protection Dual Approach – Specific Trades 8

9 9  Recognized by about 75 accreditation bodies in 60 economies  Hong Kong to continue to participate actively in the international accreditation community  Pursue wider recognition by Mainland authorities through CEPA Recognition of Assessment Results

10 10  To assist the industry to promote its services to potential users both within and outside Hong Kong  To focus on accredited establishments and the world-class standard of Hong Kong’s accreditation services  To use “Tested in Hong Kong, Certified in Hong Kong” branding as theme of promotional activities Promotion

11  Testing and Certification Industry has been supporting environmental protection, e.g – Indoor air quality inspection Testing for Energy efficiency labeling scheme Water efficiency labeling scheme for shower, water tap and sink 11 Environmental Protection – Testing and Certification Services
