JAPAN 2010 33rd APEC Transportation Working Group, Tokyo, Japan, October 10-14 2010 Maximum Take-Off Weight (MTOW) Security measures have previously been tied to aircraft propulsion type – Jets have been treated more strictly than propeller aircraft Why change the current settings for passenger and baggage screening and other security measures?

JAPAN 2010 33rd APEC Transportation Working Group, Tokyo, Japan, October 10-14 2010 MTOW as a trigger for the revision of security settings Amongst all factors of aircraft design, weight or capacity, MTOW is an appropriate trigger for a number of reasons: Consistent across aircraft regardless of method of propulsion. Airframe, fuel load, passenger and baggage weight are all considered. MTOW cannot be altered unless the aircraft is recertified by the manufacturer.
