OTHER STATISTICS ON FILIPINO HEALTH PROFESSIONALS OECD 2007 Report based on Census 2000 data, Philippines is number 4 among the countries of origin of doctors in OECD countries with India topping at 56,000, followed by Germany (over 17,000), the United Kingdom (under 17,000) & Philippines (around 16,000).

OTHER STATISTICS ON FILIPINO HEALTH PROFESSIONALS The same study indicates that in terms of nurses, the Philippines was the main country of origin for nurses with over 110,000 Filipino nurses working in OECD countries.

AQUINO’S MIGRATION RELATED Social Contract with the People Transform the government from one “that treats its people as an export commodity and a means to earn foreign exchange, disregarding the social cost to Filipino families to a government that creates jobs at home so that working abroad will be a choice rather than a necessity and when its citizens do choose to become Overseas Filipino Workers, their welfare and protection will still be the government’s priority”.

25-YEAR PLAN FOR PHILIPPINE HEALTH HUMAN RESOURCES The Philippines’ multi-stakeholder health sector provided 25-year framework for development of Philippine Health Human Resources with 3 planning frames: a. 2005 to 2010 (short term plan) b. 2011-2021 (medium term plan) c. 2022-2030 (long term plan)

CFO’S INITIATIVES TO ENGAGE THE DIASPORA IN THE HEALTH CARE INDUSTRY Launched Diaspora to Development (D2D) program at the First Global Summit in September with ten areas of engagements for the Diaspora: Diaspora Philanthropy, Diaspora Investment and Entrepreneurship, Transfer of Skills, Knowledge Competencies in Science, Technology, Education, Arts and Culture, Tourism, Legal Aid and Advocacy, etc.

Establish a needs-responsive system for medical missions that will address the gaps of health care delivery, especially in the country’s rural areas. Tap health professionals through transfer of knowledge to their counterparts in the Philippines via the Balik-Turo and Educational Exchange Cont. of CFO’S INITIATIVES TO ENGAGE THE DIASPORA IN THE HEALTH CARE INDUSTRY
