Overview We release our car down the inclined ramp. The car hits the “T” which knocks over the vertical wood. The wood lands on the mouse trap releasing the tension on the cord. This allows the counter weight to drop and the kilogram block to rise.
3
Energy Gravitational potential energy = kinetic energy Kinetic energy = rotational energy Kinetic energy + potential energy = kinetic energy Spring potential energy = kinetic energy
4
Design and Construction We had limited space to work with. Our first design idea failed so we used quick thinking to come up with an alternative plan. We use a counter balance with a pulley to raise the weight.
5
Conclusions In the end, the counter balance seemed more dependable than the tension spring. Overall it takes six steps for the elevator to complete its trip up 1 meter. “The A-Team’s Device” was inefficient because we used six steps that used far more energy to raise the block than required.
