Socialization of Children The process by which you learn your culture, your personality and values Responsibility of parents, also religion and education Must have 1.Child must have hhysical capacity to learn 2.Society must have values and rules

Authoritative Parenting Warmth and acceptance Give indirect positive control to their children to influence them for the best Children are given choices

Authoritarian Parenting Obedience required More parental control More use of punishment Belief that children will disobey without a firm hand Children may find it hard to make their own decisions when they become adults May find it hard to get along with others

Permissive Parenting Relaxed Few rules Children share more of the power Children often become more irresponsible Do not always become self-reliant If they are also rejected by parents they may find it hard to get along well with others

Positive vs. Harsh Harsh discipline, anger, and negative comments can be more harmful than anything else in a child’s life including other risk factors such as lone-parent families, teen pregnancy, low-income families, little education, and dysfunctional families Positive parenting results in positive scores in social relationships even if risk factors are present.
