2 What is the Layers Palette?  The layers palette allows you to organize layers by color coding them, which makes it easier to find the group you want, regardless of its location on the Layers palette.

3  A layer is a section within an image that can manipulated independently. They allow you to control individual elements within an image and create various effects of the the same image. Layers Tab Active Layer Visibility

4 What is a layer group?  A layer group allows you to organize your layers on your layer palette. A layer group will contain individual layers Create New Layer Group

5 What is the CONTROL key?  The CONTROL key is a MODIFIER KEY which modifies the normal action of another key when two are pressed in combination.  Its single purpose: allowing the user to enter shortcut keyboard commands.

6 What is the ALT key?  The ALT key is also a modifier key that is often used in conjunction with special keys to provide alternate functions.

7 What is the Shift key?  The Shift key is used to type upper case letters, modify other function keys such as ALT and CONTROL.

8 What is Photoshop?  A pixel-based (RASTER) program used for image editing.

9 What are the Photoshop Preferences?  Optional setting for the user to adjust to their comfort.

10 How do I create a New Document? FILE  NEW or Shortcut: CTRL N

11 What is Resolution?  The measurement of the total number of pixels in an image.  Measured in Dots Per Inch  High Res = 300 DPI  Low Res = 72 DPI

12 What is Screen Mode?  Press the F key to toggle between 3 different screen modes.

13 What are the Selection Tools?  Allow you to select a portion of an image that you want to work on.  There are 3 types of selection tools: 1. marquee tools 2. lasso tools 3. pixel selection tools.

14 What is the Rectangular Marquee Tool?  Allows you to select a rectangular portion of an image.  Shortcut: M

15 What is the Options Bar?  Allows you to adjust settings for the currently active tool.  It is context sensitive (contextual) - the option bar changes according to which tool you have selected.
