State of the USTA Membership is at an all time high at 743,394! USTA League total participation is up 5% to 738,789 players – an all time high! The QuickStart play format continues to grow with 1,300+ tennis facilities offering QST. Over 500 permanent QST courts installed in 2009. In 2009 alone, we’ve been able to provide hundreds of parks with technical assistance & helped 1,500 public courts get built. Thanks for your help in all of these areas!

3 Total participation has broken 30 million (a 12% increase over 2008 & a 25% increase since 2003) Total Participation: Played tennis at least once in past year U.S. age 6+ population that played tennis in past year

4 14.8 million people played tennis between 4 and 20 times last year (a particularly steep jump of 26% over 2008) Regular Players: Played tennis 4-20 times in past year U.S. age 6+ population that played tennis 4-20 times in past year

5 Frequent players dipped to 5.4 million (down just over 3% from 2008) Frequent Players: Number of players who have played 21+ times in past year U.S. age 6+ population that played tennis 21+ times in past year

6 Nearly 7 million former players—the highest mark for the third year in a row—came back to the game in 2009, up 18% over 2008 Rejoining Players: Started playing tennis again in past year after having stopped for at least one year U.S. age 6+ population that started playing tennis again in past year

The 2009 SGMA Survey corroborates the 2009 USTA / TIA and shows tennis as the fastest growing traditional sport in the United States.
