Power Grid game play

Player roles Game leader: This person will keep track of turns, player order, and game phases Banker: This person keeps track of the bank money and makes change Resource manager: This person organizes resources and restocks resources in the Bureaucracy phase Market manager: Rotate power plants when they are purchased

Game Setup Game Leader Give each player a bag of houses Have each player place one house on the scoring track, and one house on the player order

Game Setup Banker Give each player 50 electro Organize the money in a space away from your own play area

Game Setup Market Manager: Put plants 3,4,5,6 in the actual market. These are plants players can buy. Put plants 7,8,9,10 in the future market. These are plants that can be bought in the future. Pull plant 13 and Step 3 card aside, shuffle the rest of the cards and place them face down Put plant 13 upside down on the top of the stack, put Step 3 upside down on the bottom

Game Setup Resource manager Stock the resource market Fill all coal Fill oil in 3-8 Fill garbage in 7-8 Fill uranium in 14 and 16

Phase 1 – Player Order Game leader Place player houses on the player track First player is the one with the most houses If there is a tie, whoever has the most expensive plant

Phase 2 – Power Plants Market manager Ask player one which plant they would like to bid on. They must bid on the plant they pick. If they pass, they don’t get to buy a plant that round. Everyone can bid on plants, but can only buy 1 plant per round. After a plant is purchased, move the lowest number plant from the future market into the actual market. Keep plants in numerical order. Pull a new plant from the stack each time on is purchased. Each player can only own 3 plants Banker Accept payments for plants from the highest bidder.

Phase 3 – Buying Resources Resource manager Ask the last player what resources they want. Players can only buy twice as many resources as their plants can use Banker Accept payments and make change

Phase 4 - Building Game Leader Ask the last player if/where they would like to build a city. Players can only buy the “10” cities until one player builds 7 cities. Players must pay the city cost and the connection fees. All cities must be connected, but players can paly a fee to get through a city they don’t own Banker Accept payments Resource manager If there is a plant in the actual market numbered less than the number of cities anyone owns, remove it from the game (not back into the stack). Draw a card from the stack to replace it

Phase 5 - Bureaucracy Resource manager Ask the first player how many cities they want to power and collect the resources they use Banker Pay players based on how many cities they can power Market Manager Update the market according to the summary card Resource manager Restock 7 coal, 5 oil, 5 garbage and 2 uranium. There may not be enough to restock all resources

Repeat the phases until any player owns 7 cities. The game is now in Step 2 Players can build cities in the 15 Electro spots Resource resupply numbers change (see table on back page) Repeat phases until the Step 3 card is drawn from plant stack All plants are now in the actual market (there is no future market Players can build cities in the 20 electro spot Resource resupply numbers change (see table on back page)

How to win The game ends when any player purchases their 17 th city Whoever can power the most cities at this point wins! If there is a tie, the player with the most money wins
