Teamwork with Visual Texts

Spend a few moments getting to know a member of your table group. You might want to ask… Where does your groupmate teach? What are the demographics and culture of the school? What subjects does your groupmate teach? What was the last powerful visual, oral, or written argument your group members each encountered? What made it powerful?

Teamwork with a Visual Text Please record your findings In twos or threes, review and discuss the argument definition. Record any questions you may have about the definition.

Please pass out sets of visual texts to the table teams.

Thinking about the definition of argument, examine the image you have just been given.

Then, as you “read” the text, think about the following questions together.

Then, What is the main claim of the text? What are the supporting claims/reasons of the text? What is the evidence that explores/supports the claims?

With the other members of your table who have been examining the same visual text, Share the main argument you and your partner/s have determined and try to reach a consensus with the table. Be prepared to share your ideas and process with the larger group. Record the “best” main argument and evidence supporting that main argument.

Whole Group work Main Argument Claims/Reason Your proof of the main argument

If time … Create a list of critical thinking questions that might help lead readers to the main argument or claims.
