2 Rules for the American Flag The flag should be raised and lowered by hand. The flag is only flown from sunrise to sunset. If the flag is flown at night, it is illuminated. The flag may be flown on any day of the year. The flag cannot touch the ground.

3 More rules for the flag… The flag can be flown upside down to indicate distress. No other flag can be flown higher than the American flag. No other flag can be flown to the American flag’s right, if the two are flown at the same height. The proper way to destroy an old, worn-out flag is to burn it. It must first be cut into two pieces: the stars and the stripes.
