3. FACTORS THAT EXPRESS IDENTIY 1. Time: Relationships and experiences help shape our identity as we age. 2. Traditions: A repetitive action that is done for a purpose or has meaning. 3. Attire: The way we present ourselves makes a visible statement about our identity. 4. Relationship to Land: How we interact with our physical surroundings communicates a message about our identity.

Spirituality: Events and actions that bring about a feeling of something greater than yourself. 7. Ideology: A set of beliefs that gives a picture of a persons worldview. 8. The Arts: human activities, creations, and expressions that are appealing to the senses or emotions and give information about our culture.

FACTORS THAT EXPRESS IDENTIY Language: How does language affect identity? a) Language Maintain group Solidarity: Language can be the glue that holds the group together and helps affirm their identity.  Slang: language used by members of a social collective. Ex: gangster, nerds  Jargon: Language used by members of a professional collective. Ex: Doctors, lawyers, techie  National Language: Chinese=Chinatown
