2 Lesson 4: Verbs in the Past  Go, see, do, run, and come are special.  They have special spellings to show past tense.

3  The verbs give, write, eat, take, and grow are also special verbs.  They have one special spelling to show past tense.  They have another spelling when used with has, have, or had.

4 Examples PRESENT: I grow corn in my garden. PAST: Al grew corn last summer. WITH HAVE: We have grown many vegetables in our garden.

5 Let’s Practice! Directions: Choose the correct verb for each sentence. 1. She (gave, given) me a mp3 player for my birthday. 2. I (took, take) it on my walk. 3. Amanda ( ate, eaten) carrots after the walk. Let’s Check Our Answers!
