Typical Backplane Application Example “Fixed” Backplane 2 mm Hard Metric compatible backplane systems that use right angle socket connectors mounted on daughter cards can easily take advantage of this 3x speed upgrade by replacing their current HM socket with the 3M™ MetPak™ HSHM Socket Connector, requiring minimal or no modifications to the daughter card footprint. Solution: 3x Speed with Only a Daughter Card Change Existing HM or cPCI backplane can be used without changes Daughter cards are populated with HSHM shielded, controlled impedance sockets instead of HM or cPCI sockets Interstitial grounding needed by HSHM typically necessitates re-spin of daughter cards to connect shields to daughter card ground planes Special version of HSHM socket utilizing 6 th row of vias for vertical shield grounding could allow drop-in replacement in cases where HM or cPCI sockets with outer shield were previously being used In this situation no re-spin of daughter card is needed!! Typically, HM connectors are not used in applications above ~1.0 Gbps HM headers mated to HSHM sockets provide tremendous improvement in eye opening and jitter up to at least 5.0 Gbps HM backplanes may be useable above 5.0 Gbps with HSHM sockets if signal conditioning is utilized HM Headers, HM Sockets HM Headers, HSHM Sockets 2 Gb/s3 Gb/s4 Gb/s5 Gb/s

A: The 3M™ MetPak™ Press-Fit HSHM B22 Sockets will mate to 3M and competitors’ 2 mm hard metric connectors. The 3M MetPak Press-Fit HSHM B22 headers will only mate to the HSHM B22 socket. Q: Are these products EU and China RoHS compliant? A: No. However, these connectors are eligible for the press-fit RoHS exemption. Q: Are these products eligible for the 3M Design Registration Program? A: Yes ????
