TIA Technology & Standards Conference Call Complimentary Copies
2
Summary Requirements & Copyright Issues Solutions Ongoing Problems Continuous Improvement
3
Requirements TIA Engineering Manual (5 th Edition) – 6.6.2 Balloting of Standards Proposals “Only those companies who return ballots will receive a complimentary copy of the published document.” – Auditable TIA Policy – Complimentary copy is provided to the company’s registered voter
4
Copyright The use, purchase or subscription of a TIA published standard or copyright document implies a limited, nonexclusive, non- transferable right to: – Download an electronic file of the document for temporary storage on one computer for purposes of viewing, and/or printing one copy of the document for individual use – Store a printed, single hard copy document for use by another for their internal use within your organization; This right does NOT imply any right to: – Reproduce the document in any way – Distributed the document elsewhere, over computer networks or otherwise – E-mail, download to disk, or copy the document to another hard drive – Share the document with others – Sell, resell, rent, lease or sub-license the document
5
Issues Maintain audit trail of distribution Assist company compliance with copyright laws – Discrepancies found in internal audits and reported to TIA Prevent unauthorized duplication and distribution of copyright documents – Often end up posted on internet sites
6
Solutions TIA adopted a model similar to the IHS model for subscription service documents – Watermark, tracers and purchaser information There’s nothing implied with TIA’s use of the person’s name (contribution worthiness, who it’s useful for, etc.) other than to record compliance that the complimentary copy was provided to the person voting on the document.
