CRAIGSLIST WAS FOUNDED Who: Craig Newmark founded it What: Craigslist is a database that allows you to buy and sell items over the internet When:1999 Where: The headquarters is located in San Francisco How: It offers local ads for jobs, housing, selling and trading items, etc. Why: Newmark started Craigslist as an email distribution list to friends featuring local events in their area

MOZILLA FOUNDATION Who: Mitchell Baker (founding chairperson) What: Mozilla is a non-profit organization that encourages the open internet to the world When: 1999 Where: The headquarters is located in California How: It is a browser Why: Baker got involved to legitimize Open Source Internet application clients

INTERNET TO AFRICA Who: Nii Quaynor What: Quaynor provided the first internet training workshop to Africa When: 2000 Where: Africa How: He helped set up workshops to train for the African Network Operators Group Why: He wanted to provide internet and training to Africa

WIKIPEDIA IS LAUNCHED Who: Jimmy Wales What: Wikipedia is a site that offers definitions, biographies, and summaries of important objects or events. When: 2001 Where: It is located in San Francisco, California How: Anyone can edit a page on Wikipedia, as long as it fits within their guidelines. Why: He and his partner founded it to make information more accessible to everyone

PUN CONNECTS NEPAL Who: Mahabir Pun What: He connected the first village in Nepal to the internet When: 2002 Where: Nepal How: He used long range wireless links built from homemade antennas Why: It was the beginning of the Nepal Wireless Network
