The Executive Branch Article II of the Constitution specifies the powers of President who is responsible for enforcing the laws approved by the Congress

Becoming President Must be a native born citizen At least 35 years old Must have been a resident of the U.S. for at least 14 years All have been white males however in recent years candidates have become more diverse

The American people elect a President and a Vice President every 4 years A President can’t be elected more than twice the 22nd Amendment fixed that in 1951 after Franklin D. Roosevelt was elected for 4 consecutive terms If a President dies or is removed from office the Vice President becomes President

Duties Main duty is to oversee all aspects of the government The President isn’t directly involved in making laws but he can encourage the Congress about issues he/she is interested in, but the President does have the ultimate authority to Veto, or cancel laws passed by the Congress

Congress can override a Presidential Veto with a 2/3 majority The President although a civilian is Commander and Chief of the armed forces and can send troops into emergency situations The President also the job of appointing members to his cabinet today there are 14 departments

Impeachment The Constitution give the House of Representative the power to bring charges against a President suspected of committing a crime The Senate tries all impeachments cases and if the President is found guilty they will be removed first secondthird
