2 THREE IMPORTANT TIPS APPLY EARLY - schedule appointment as early as possible - first time students can enter the US 30 days before studies begin - student visa can be issued up to 120 days before

4 BE PREPARED – Follow the procedures for visa reguirements – Submit form I-20 (Certificate of Eligibility for Nonimmigrant (F-1) Student Status for Academic and Language Students or – Submimt Form I-20 (Certificate of Eligibility for Nonimmigrant (M-A) Student Status for Vocational Students – Submit SEVIS generated Form

5 All student applicants must have a SEVIS generated I-20 issued by an educational institution approved DHS, which is submited during the application process. Consular officer will verify I-20 record through the SEVIS system in order to process student visa application. Unless otherwise exempt, applicant must pay a SEVIS I-901 fee to the DHS for each individual program.

6 WHAT IS SEVIS? SEVIS (Student and Exchange Visitor Information System) is an Internet-based system that maintains accurate and current information on nonimmigrant students (F and M visa), exchange visitors (J visa) and their dependents (F-2, M-2, and J-2). SEVIS enables schools and program sponsors to transmit mandatory information to the DHS and DOS throughout a student or exchange visitor’s stay in the U.S.

7 Student Visa F-1 or M-1 Qualifying for a Student Visa Applicant must demonstrate that they properly meet requirements including: Acceptance at a school Possess sufficient funds to pursue the proosed course of study Preparation for the course of study Intend to leave the US upon completion of the course of study

8 F-1 or M-1 Form I-20 Online Nonimmigrant Visa Electronic Application, Form DS.-160 Passport One photograph Fee receipt to show payment of the visa application fee SEVIS I-901 fee receipt

9 All applicants should be prepared to provide: Transcripts and diplomas from previous institutions attended Scores from standardized tests required by the educational institutions such as the TOEFL, SAT, GRE, GMAT, etc. Financial evidence that shows you or your parents who are sponsoring you has sufficient funds to cover your tuition and living expenses during the period of intended study.

10 Exchange Visitor Visa J-1 Qualifying for an Exchange Visitor Visa Applicants must demonstrate that they meet requirements, including the following: They plan to remain in the U.S. for a temporary, specific period of time; Evidence of funds to cover expenses in the U.S. Evidence of compelling social and economic ties abroad; and other binding ties which will insure their return abroad at the end of the visit
