2 STUDENTS WILL IDENTIFY SAFE PLACES TO STORE THEIR MONEY AND UNDERSTAND THE BENEFITS OF USING A BANK OR CREDIT UNION. STUDENTS WILL COMPARE VARIOUS BANK ACCOUNT OPTIONS AND DECIDE WHICH ONE IS THE BEST CHOICE. STUDENTS WILL KNOW COMMON QUESTIONS THEY SHOULD ASK BEFORE OPENING A BANK ACCOUNT AND MATERIALS NEEDED. STUDENTS WILL VISIT 1-2 BANK WEBSITES TO GATHER BASIC INFORMATION ON BANK ACCOUNTS OFFERED. Lesson Objectives 2

4 Breakout 1: Recap and Financial Feud (5 minutes) 4 Spend the remaining time (approximately five minutes) completing the “Banks and Credit Unions” handout in your small groups.

5 Breakout 2: Shopping For A Bank (10 minutes) 5 Directions: You are a student looking to open your first bank account. Review the three options in your “Shopping for a Bank” handout and select which institution is the best fit. You have 2-3 minutes to review the information and decide and discuss which institution is the best fit and why. Spend the remaining time (1-2 minutes) reviewing the information on the following page – common questions to ask, materials needed to open an account, and bank terms. Be ready to debrief and share what came up in your small group discussion with the larger class.

6 Breakout 3: Banking Research (15 minutes) 6 Spend 8-10 minutes researching bank account options by visiting 1-2 bank or credit union websites. Continue using your “Shopping for a Bank” handout and identify the answers to the common questions you should ask as well as materials needed to open an account. 9 Reflect and Review (5 minutes) 9 Individually complete your “Student Reflection” handout. Then spend 2-3 minutes in your small group sharing what you learned or how you can apply today’s workshop content. Think about: What information resonated with you about today’s workshop? What information was new to you? What information was most helpful to learn about? Why? What knowledge can you pass on or share with family members? Be ready to share your key learnings with the class.
