Olympic Day Phnom Penh Half Marathon 18 June 2011

NOCC’s Objective The National Olympic Council of Cambodia, is organizing of the Olympic Day Phnom Penh Half Marathon 2011 in celebration of 117 th year anniversary of Olympic Day, the formation of the International Olympic council in 1894. This event is going to be held in conjunction with the World Environment Day celebrations (WED) on the 18th of June2011,which coincides with the birthday of the Queen Norodom Monivealth Sihanouk from the Royal Kingdom Cambodia. To register about 2,000 amateur and professional athletes to participate in the half marathon. 1,500 athletes based in Phnom Penh. 300 athletes Cambodians from outside Phnom Penh. 200 athletes from overseas.

O.D.P.P.H.M. Theme The Olympic Day was introduced in 1948 to commemorate the birth of the modern Olympic Games. The goal was to promote participation in sport across the globe regardless of age, gender or athletic ability. Over the last 20 years Olympic Day has been associated with Olympic Day Runs all over the world. Olympic Day is nowadays developing into much more than just a sports event. Based on the three pillars “move”, “learn” and “discover”, National Olympic Committees are deploying sports, cultural and educational activities.

O.D.P.P.H.M. Theme The World Environment Day (WED) falls on 5 June every year. Environmental issues concern everyone, especially in developing countries like Cambodia, which has rich natural resources. This month long, annual event is the biggest and most widely celebrated event for positive environmental action. WED is a day for people from all walks of life to come together to ensure a cleaner, greener and brighter outlook for themselves and future generations.
