2. One important aspect of art is the communication of ideas, thoughts, or mood. Sometimes communication is a personal thing, while other times it is meant for a larger audience. For this assessment you must communicate an idea while using other skills learned throughout the semester. You will be randomly assigned a theme to illustrate. The chose of media is completely up to you. Take the time to consider your strengths before deciding. Overall, I want you to show off! Premise

5. This category asks how well you communicated your theme. I will look at the images, symbols, and other elements to decipher your meaning. Remember, the title can also convey intent!  Excellent (20)  Somewhat clear (15)  Less than clear (10)  Unclear (5) Communicative Properties

6. Did you use the media to its “full potential”? For instance, graphite can be used to create various textures, values, & illusions of space. Did you consider your color choices when using paint, color pencils, or chalk? Use what you’ve learned!  Full Potential (15)  Fair Use (needs attention) (10)  Poor use (5) Use of Media

7. Apply what you know about composition. Think about your Principles of Design! Create Harmony by repeating a mark, color, or object. Use Emphasis to create a clear focal point. Think about your usage of space and placement of objects. 8. Your statement describes your intent and explains why you chose particular images, symbols, & elements. It should look something like this- “My Artwork (title) illustrates mans struggle with internal demons created by greed. The focal point is an average man hugging and kissing a giant dollar bill. I choose to cast a green hue on every object to symbolize “greed & envy”. The size of the bill emphasizes the size of the problem. Keep it simple! I don’t expect to read a novel. Artist Statement

9. This should be pretty self explanatory. I want you to use your time wisely. No taking breaks to go see your boyfriend at the drinking fountain, or spending the hour discussing the drama from lunch. 10. This is a 5 minute presentation where you talk about your work. You should describe the meaning, imagery, use of Elements, and overall organization. Ideally this should take no more then 5 minutes. I will assess you on whether you used the correct vocabulary and if you adequately present/describe the work. (5) Presentation

11.  2 weeks (10 Class periods)  No Clay (other forms of sculpture could be used)  Minimum size 10 x 10  Maximum size 18 x 18  Final work must be photographed and uploaded to MBC for grading.  No switching themes Restrictions
