“Throw a lifeline” The phrase “throw a lifeline” is an idiom that means to help someone who is struggling. Write about how you can “throw a lifeline” to a friend who is struggling in school. Give specific examples of what you could do. Please remember that I will ask you to share what you have written. Part of your grade is based on how well you participate. There are no right or wrong answers, so please participate.

Vocabulary fiscal: having to do with finances If you are fiscally responsible, you will be able to buy a house one day.

Vocabulary taut: tightly stretched After having surgery, the actor’s face was so taut he looked like someone had stretched him like Silly Putty.

Vocabulary benign: kindly Although he looked creepy, the old man was actually benign.

Vocabulary infuse: put into The teacher infused her lessons with fun activities.

Vocabulary intolerant: unable or unwilling to accept It is not good to be intolerant of other races.

Vocabulary couched: expressed in softer or more flowery terms. She tried to couch the fact that there would be a test by saying the students would have a fun activity to complete.
