4. Why a Legionella code? Legionnaires disease is a potentially fatal form of pneumonia caused by Legionella and other naturally occurring bacteria. Legionella grows best in stagnant, nutrient rich, warm water - between 20’C and 45’c (body temperature). Legionella infection occurs through inhalation of water droplets – mists, showers etc. Legionella is a statutory reportable disease.

5. Key points Establishes Legionella Responsible Persons (LRPs) to manage the operation and maintenance of Legionella registered systems and advise on Legionella matters. Installing new, or maintaining or modifying existing water systems MUST be approved by the LRP. If you work on water systems – have you been Legionella trained?
