3. The “Common Good” Common Good : an action, idea or event that benefits society as a whole. 4. How to end the war in Japan Option 1: A land invasion of Japan much like D-Day. Hundreds of thousands of Americans lives are expected to be lost. Fighting will continue in Japan for 1-2 more years. Option 2: Use a new weapon called the Atom Bomb. It has never been used before so it’s effectiveness is unknown. Potentially no need for a land invasion. Minimal to no Americans lives lost. Expected to end fighting within weeks.

5. Option 2 was Picked The US and British forces decided to go with Option 2 and try to end the fighting in the Pacific ASAP. Two medium sized cities were picked (Hiroshima and Nagasaki). On August 6 th, Hiroshima was bombed. On Aug. 9 th, Nagasaki was bombed. Japan surrenders on Aug. 15 th.
