Peking Opera Peking opera, the best-known Chinese Opera, was developed during the Qing dynasty (1644-1911). It is a dramatic form that includes dance, theater, music, and skilled performance. Character types depend on vocal styles. Performers wear dramatic makeup or masks.

京剧是地地道道的中国国粹,因形成 于北京而得名,但它的源头还要追溯到几 种古老的地方戏剧。 1790 年,安徽的四 大戏班 -- 三庆班、四喜班、春公班和春班 - - 先后进京献艺,获得空前成功。徽班常 与来自湖北的汉调艺人合作演出,于是, 一种以徽调 “ 二簧 ” 和汉调 “ 西皮 ” 为主,兼 收昆曲、秦腔、梆子等地方戏精华的新剧 种诞生了,这就是京剧。

在 200 年的发展历程中,京剧在唱 词、念白及字韵上越来越北京化,使用 的二胡,京胡等乐器,也融合了多个民 族的发明,终于成为一种成熟的艺 术。 “ 生、旦、净、丑 ” 是什么?其实不 过是角色分类。 “ 生 ” 是男性正面角色, “ 旦 ” 是女性正面角色, “ 净 ” 是性格鲜明的 男性配角, “ 丑 ” 是幽默滑稽或反面角色。 每种角色又有表明身份的脸谱、扮相等, 只要演员一上场,一望便知。

在 “ 京剧 ” 的 “ 票友 ” 中有许多大名鼎 鼎的人物,其中包括清朝的皇帝载恬, 他不但会唱戏,还能司鼓,并且是京、 昆、弋腔的多面能手。著名的慈禧太 后则是一个大戏迷,在今日颐和园内 还保留一座中国最大的戏楼,该戏楼 高 21 米,共有三层,可见她在京剧上 花了不少的功夫。
