1 Welcome to the Annual Meeting of Title I Parents

2 Why are we here?  The No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 requires that each Title I School hold an Annual Meeting of Title I parents for the purpose of…  Informing you of your school’s participation in Title I  Explaining the requirements of Title I  Explaining your rights as parents to be involved

3 What you will learn…  What does it mean to be a Title I school?  What is the Building’s Title I School Improvement Plan?  What is the District’s Parental Involvement Plan?  What is the School-Parent Compact?  How do I request the qualifications of my child’s teacher(s)?

4 What you will learn… (Continued)  How will I be notified if my child is taught by a teacher who is not Highly Qualified?  How can I be involved in all of these things I’m learning about?

5 What does it mean to be a Title I School?  Being a Title I school means receiving federal funding (Title I dollars) to supplement the school’s existing programs. These dollars are used for…  Identifying students experiencing academic difficulties and providing timely assistance to help these student’s meet the State’s challenging content standards.  Purchasing supplemental staff/programs/materials/supplies  Conducting parental Involvement meetings/trainings/activities  Recruiting/Hiring/Retaining Highly Qualified Teachers  Being a Title I school also means parental involvement and parents’ rights.

6 What is the Building’s Title I School Improvement Plan?  The Building’s Title I Plan addresses how the LEA will use Title I funds throughout the school system. Topics include:  Student academic assessments  Additional assistance provided struggling students  Coordination and integration of federal funds and programs  Parental Involvement Strategies, including the District’s Parental Involvement Plan  You, as a Title I Parent, have a right to be involved in the development of the Building’s Title I Plan

7 What is the District’s Parental Involvement Plan?  This plan addresses how the District will implement the parental involvement requirements of the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001. It includes…  The LEA’s expectations for parents  How the LEA will involve parents in decision-making  How the LEA will work to build the schools’ and parents’ capacity for strong parental involvement to improve student academic achievement  You, as Title I parents, have the right to be involved in the development of this plan.

8 PTO & Site Team Members Needed  An opportunity to meet with other Anthony parents, administration and teachers on a monthly basis about how to support the teaching staff at Anthony.  An opportunity to hear about the academic progress at Anthony and a chance to also provide feedback and insight on how we can continue to improve as a school community.  Meetings are from 4:15-5:00pm on the 3 rd Thursday of the month!
