2. How Can Parents Be Involved? Parent Resources are needed to enrich Instruction in Academic Programs, Fine Arts and Technical Arts. Parents can provide important contacts for – Industry and Business Contacts - Community Partnerships – Guest Speakers and Student Career Exposure

Parent Involvement Opportunities – Governing Board Parent member Standing Committee Member: Curriculum and Instruction, Operations or Student Services – Parent Advisory/Title I and ELAC Committees – School Site Council Parent Representative – PTSA and Volunteering – Participating in Charter School Advocacy and issues that will affect our Charter School

4. How Can Parents Be Involved? Providing parent input on the development of future programs, participation in the Annual Parent Survey and the development, review of our: – Local Control Accountability Plans (LCAP), – Single Plan for Student Achievement (SPSA), – Parent Engagement Policy – And representing Parents at Accreditation and Oversight Visits and Charter Renewals

5. What does the Single Plan for Student Achievement (SPSA) Include? The SPSA outlines School Goals that mimic our Charter and our WASC Accreditation Action Plan. It additionally outlines the services, programs and funding allocated on an annual basis to provide for student support as does the LCAP.

6. What does the Single Plan for Student Achievement (SPSA) Include? SPSA Goals for 2014-15 are identified as: 1.All students will meet or exceed targets for growth on Statewide assessment in English Language Arts and Mathematics, CAHSEE and meet the annual API Growth Target or equivalent. 2.All EL and RFEP students will gain academic content knowledge through the state-adopted common core content standards and perform at grade level on the Statewide assessment. EL students will show an increase in reclassification rate and performance levels.

7. What does the Single Plan for Student Achievement (SPSA) Include? SPSA Goals for 2014-15 are identified as: 3.Students, are on track to be college and career ready. All students will graduate with completion of A-G Courses with a C or better. 4.Increase Parent Engagement and Participation in Schoolwide Program Evaluation

8. LCAP and SPSA Overlap and Duplication of Goals and Expenditures Both the LCAP and the SPSA is for local accountability purposes and the State of California is considering consolidation of these two local plans. It is important that parents, teachers, community members and students participate in the review and approval of these Plans.

9. GHCHS Title I Program Our school receives $725,699 in Title I funding. Parents need to participate in how these funds are allocated and spent. Our currently approved plan has allocated funding for the following: – Partial support of Title I Supervisor position – GHCHS provides for 9 co-teacher positions with Title I funds in English 9, Algebra I & 2, Geometry, Physics and Social Studies. – Title I funds also provide targeted student assistance in the classroom and after school in a variety of forums such as SST follow-up support, after school homework help, Peer- tutor pairing, SES Services (20%), support materials and assistance to insure a timely graduation.

10. Common Core Curriculum Granada uses collaboratively designed, standards-based common-core curriculum in all classes. Academic Programs integrate special topics and cross curricular activities and projects as appropriate for each program, e.g. GBF, GHI, HU, STEM, CTE, etc. International Baccalaureate and AP Courses (and the upcoming Capstone Program) are designed around specific content specific to those courses and programs.

Assessments Students are assessed in the following ways: – CELDT Testing for EL Students – Common Core State assessments – Formative and Summative assessments are given in each course-English Writing Benchmarks, etc. – GHCHS provides PSAT Testing for all grades 9-11 annually. – 10 th grade CA High School Exit Exam – CAHSEE (suspended?) – AP and IB Exams as appropriate – In the absence of State Testing GHCHS adopted the Northwestern Evaluation Association (NWEA ) Assessment Tool and will continue utilizing this assessment which indicates student growth.

12. Proficiency levels and School Accountability Schools are measured by the federal government each year for Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP). This year, the 2015 Online Smarter Balanced State Testing will establish our performance baseline. Only 10 th grade science and 11 th grade ELA and Mathematics will be tested. In the interim, graduation rate and CAHSEE pass rate and proficiency levels may be considered.

Parental Involvement Policy and School-Parent Compact All parents are provided with a Parent-Student Handbook which contains procedures, policies and protocols as well as the current parent involvement policy. Parents are encouraged participate as members of the GHCHS Governing Board, School Site Council and Standing Committees: Student Services, Curriculum and Instruction and Operations which meet monthly.
