2 Diwali (Deepawali) – “Festival of Lights”  Diwali is known as Festival of Lights ( The word Deepawali means “Rows of Lamps” )  This important five (5) day festival is celebrated among Hindus in all parts of the world.  Generally celebrated in Mid October to Mid November every year.  Celebration of the victory of good over evil.  The festival is usually celebrated by:  Decorating Home –Lighting Lamps, Hanging Lanterns, Rangoli ( color Sand Design)  Get Together of Family and Friends.  Prayer to god for the Happiness.  Exchanging, distributing Gifts and special sweets.  Fireworks.

3 Diwali (Deepawali) – “Festival of Lights” Lantern: Colorful paper lanterns for the Diwali decoration. Rangoli, the color sand. Lighting Lamps.

4 Diwali (Deepawali) – “Festival of Lights” Diyas (lamp) symbolize the knowledge that destroys negative traits; such as anger, jealousy, greed, fear or suffering.

5 Diwali (Deepawali) – “Festival of Lights” In addition to diyas, firecrackers light up the streets.

6 Rangoli, made of colored powder, dry grains and/or flowers, adorns the doorstep to welcome guests with honor. Diwali is a season for visiting friends and family.

7 Diwali (Deepawali) – “Festival of Lights” Sweets ("mithais") are enjoyed during Diwali.

8 Traditional dances add to the festivities.
