2. Section Three Summary: By the end of this section, you will… Understand why the Framers added a Bill of Rights to the Constitution Understand how the Constitution finally got ratified Be introduced to tomorrow’s webquest activity Review the computer lab rules and rules for internet safety

3. Bill of Rights… the Ultimate Marketing Tool The Framers realized that without at least a promise of a bill or rights, ratification would never happen Small states, happy with equal representation in the Senate ratified quickly Large states, however, wanted more… they wanted their hard earned rights protected!!

4. The “Promise” pushed ratification through Big states were reluctant to ratify without the promise of the B.O.R The Constitution was finally ratified on June 21, 1788 By 1790, all 13 states had ratified – thanks to the promise of a Bill of Rights!!! James Madison, famed Federalist writer, drafted the new B.O.R, which went into effect in 1791

5. The new B.O.R… a summary The first ten amendments to the Constitution Twelve were drafted by Madison and approved by Congress Ten were ratified by the states Limited ONLY the power of the federal government over citizens, not the power of states over citizens

Group Assignments… Groups of four have been pre-assigned Each member of the group will have a specific role and be held accountable for their responsibilities You will be allowed to choose your role You will work with the same group for the duration of the webquest and present your finished products together as a group

8. Computer Lab Rules… a Review No email, no gaming, no instant messaging (and no exceptions!!) Must stay on task – you are only allowed to work within your webquest – no excuses!! Failure to obey rules = F on your webquest!!! Failure to obey ALSO will get you kicked out of the computer lab for good…
