The 2 nd Asia-Pacific Water Summit (2 nd APWS) and Related Activities Inform by Thailand At the 11 th Meeting of AWGWRM 4 July 2011

2 nd APWS Date: 2-6 February 2012 Venue: Queen Sirikit National Convention Center (QSNCC) Composition: –Awareness Raising (2-6 Feb: open access) Technical Sessions (2-4 Feb) Exhibition/OTOP (2-6 Feb) –Water Summit (5-6 Feb: closed sessions) Focus Areas Session/Opening Ceremony Statements/Closing Ceremony

2 nd APWS Main Theme: Leadership and Commitment Focus Areas (Sub Themes) –Household Water Security –Economic, Food and Water Security –Urban Water Security –Environmental Water Security –Water Risks and Resilience –IWRM Process for a Water Secure World Technical sessions will focus on these areas and will be reflected in the parallel sessions of the Water Summit on 5 Feb and to be considered for inclusion in the Chair’ Summary on 6 FEB

2 nd APWS Objectives 1.to present the royal initiative/development projects on water resources management, 2.to promote active dialogue among leaders of Asia- Pacific countries, 3.to bring about more effective regional cooperation and coordination in water security, 4.to enhance participation of stakeholders in water resources management, and 5.to join “The Celebrations on the Auspicious Occasion of His Majesty the King’s 7 th Cycle Birthday Anniversary 5 th December 2011.”

2 nd APWS Expected Participants –Head of the Governments (50 AP Countries) –Relevant Ministers –Representatives from local governments –Leaders from private sectors –Civil society –Media

2 nd APWS RTG will cover expenses for the Water Summit as follows; 1.Three nights accommodation in a 5-star hotel within a vicinity of 5 km. from the conference venue for Head of the Government and one accompanying person per country. 2.Three vehicles: one each for the Head of the Government, Minister/senior officials, and a stand-by car for the party, for use during the two-day period of the Summit. (could be extended for a maximum of 4 days upon request) 3.Welcome Dinner for delegates to the Water Summit

2 nd APWS 1 st Announcement was launched in May 2011 Diplomatic Briefing was made on June 16, 2011 An invitation from Thailand will be sent to Asia-Pacific Leaders around August to September 2011

2 nd APWS What you can do –Convince your Government of the importance of the event –Support data on water resources management and related issues to your delegations –Participate as a delegate to the event as you are an expert on water resources management –Keep updating yourself and your delegations of the progress Thailand has made for the event
