(Rev 5:1-4) And I saw in the right hand of him that sat on the throne a book written within and on the backside, sealed with seven seals. And I saw a strong angel proclaiming with a loud voice, Who is worthy to open the book, and to loose the seals thereof? And no man in heaven, nor in earth, neither under the earth, was able to open the book, neither to look thereon. And I wept much, because no man was found worthy to open and to read the book, neither to look thereon.

I. The description of the scroll

1.It is in the right hand of God. Signifying strength, power and ability 2. It is written on front and back. Both sides of the scroll 3. It has 7 seals During Roman times a legal will had to be sealed by 7 witnesses

II. The detection of the scroll

1. General Beliefs as to the identity of the scroll. Bible Book of Daniel Book of Revelation Lamb’s Book of Life? Lamb’s Book of Life?

 When the seals are opened in 6 and 7 the wrath and judgment of God is poured out on the Earth.  When the 7 th seal is opened in Rev 8:1 it initiates the sounding of 7 trumpets  When the 7 th trumpet sounds in Rev. 11:15, The kingdoms of the earth become the Lord’s

Thou art worthy to take the book hast redeemed us we shall reign on the earth (Rev 5:9-10) And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation; And hast made us unto our God kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth.

III. The details of the scroll

 Redemption is the process of God buying back what Adam lost. Soul Spirit Body Land

 Just like your body has not been redeemed, neither has the land and creation. The Provision of the Kinsman- Redeemer.  The Provision of the Kinsman- Redeemer.  Leviticus 25

The Provision of the Kinsman-Redeemer.  The REQUIREMENTS 1.He had to be a blood relative. 2.He had to be able. (debt free) had to be willing. 3.He had to be willing.

 Our Soul and spirit was redeemed the day we received him as Savior  He will redeem our body at the rapture  He will redeem the land during the time of the tribulation

IV. The deficiency to open the scroll

Who is worthy (Rev 5:2) And I saw a strong angel proclaiming with a loud voice, Who is worthy to open the book, and to loose the seals thereof? no man in heaven earthunder the earthable neither to look thereon (Rev 5:3) And no man in heaven, nor in earth, neither under the earth, was able to open the book, neither to look thereon. And I wept much (Rev 5:4) And I wept much, because no man was found worthy to open and to read the book, neither to look thereon.

V. The distinguished one to open the scroll

(Rev 5:5) And one of the elders saith unto me, Weep not: behold, the Lion of the tribe of Juda, the Root of David, hath prevailed to open the book, and to loose the seven seals thereof. (Rev 5:6) And I beheld, and, lo, in the midst of the throne and of the four beasts, and in the midst of the elders, stood a Lamb as it had been slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God sent forth into all the earth. (Rev 5:7) And he came and took the book out of the right hand of him that sat upon the throne.

 In the midst of John weeping, one of the 24 elders points him to Christ and his weeping stops.  That is the exactly what it takes to stop people from weeping and whaling for eternity in Hell.

The Lion of Judah  Gen. 49:9… Judah is a Lion  Gen. 49:10… Judah would be the ruling tribe.  It also predicts that the future ruler of the world would come from the tribe of Judah

Root of David  He would be of the linage or family of David. (Isa. 11:1,10)  He was not just a descendant of David, but was the creator of David. (Rev. 22:16)(Matt. 22:41-46)

Lamb of God  He is not just a lamb, but lion lamb.  The lion is that which is the conquering King of the world.  The lamb is that which is the atoning sacrifice of the sin of the world

The 1 st place the lamb is mentioned in the Bible?

Behold where is the lamb (Gen 22:7) And Isaac spake unto Abraham his father, and said, My father: and he said, Here am I, my son. And he said, Behold the fire and the wood: but where is the lamb for a burnt offering?

Behold the Lamb (Joh 1:29) The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.

A. Notice the Lamb’s place

in the midst of the throne (Rev 5:6-7) And I beheld, and, lo, in the midst of the throne and of the four beasts, and in the midst of the elders, stood a Lamb as it had been slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God sent forth into all the earth. And he came and took the book out of the right hand of him that sat upon the throne.

B. Notice the Lamb’s position

stood a Lamb (Rev 5:6-7) And I beheld, and, lo, in the midst of the throne and of the four beasts, and in the midst of the elders, stood a Lamb as it had been slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God sent forth into all the earth. And he came and took the book out of the right hand of him that sat upon the throne.

 When we see Jesus complete the redemption process of our souls and spirit, He takes a seated position

(Heb 1:3) Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high;

(Heb 10:11-12) And every priest standeth daily ministering and offering oftentimes the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins: But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God;

 When we see Jesus complete the redemption process of our souls and spirit, He takes a seated position  When was the last time we saw him standing?

(Act 7:55-56) But he, being full of the Holy Ghost, looked up stedfastly into heaven, and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing on the right hand of God, And said, Behold, I see the heavens opened, and the Son of man standing on the right hand of God.

 He is standing because of 2 things… 1. He is about to return and restore the kingdom to Israel like he said he would in Acts 1 2. Plus the work of redemption was done as far as our soul and spirit, but the land had to be redeemed (Rom. 8)

C. Notice the Lamb’s provision

as it had been slain (Rev 5:6-7) And I beheld, and, lo, in the midst of the throne and of the four beasts, and in the midst of the elders, stood a Lamb as it had been slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God sent forth into all the earth. And he came and took the book out of the right hand of him that sat upon the throne.

 Even in Heaven we will see and be reminded of our sin as we look at the scars in his hands.  The only thing that is man made in heaven are the scars that He bares in his body.

(Joh 20:25-27) The other disciples therefore said unto him, We have seen the Lord. But he said unto them, Except I shall see in his hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and thrust my hand into his side, I will not believe. And after eight days again his disciples were within, and Thomas with them: then came Jesus, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said, Peace be unto you. Then saith he to Thomas, Reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into my side: and be not faithless, but believing.

(Zec 13:6) And one shall say unto him, What are these wounds in thine hands? Then he shall answer, Those with which I was wounded in the house of my friends.

D. Notice the Lamb’s power

having seven horns (Rev 5:6-7) And I beheld, and, lo, in the midst of the throne and of the four beasts, and in the midst of the elders, stood a Lamb as it had been slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God sent forth into all the earth. And he came and took the book out of the right hand of him that sat upon the throne.

 “Horns” in the Bible are a symbol of authority and power.

his horns he shall push (Deu 33:17) His glory is like the firstling of his bullock, and his horns are like the horns of unicorns: with them he shall push the people together to the ends of the earth: and they are the ten thousands of Ephraim, and they are the thousands of Manasseh. horns of iron With these shalt thou push the Syrians (1Ki 22:11) And Zedekiah the son of Chenaanah made him horns of iron: and he said, Thus saith the LORD, With these shalt thou push the Syrians, until thou have consumed them.

(Dan 7:7) After this I saw in the night visions, and behold a fourth beast, dreadful and terrible, and strong exceedingly; and it had great iron teeth: it devoured and brake in pieces, and stamped the residue with the feet of it: and it was diverse from all the beasts that were before it; and it had ten horns.

 “Horns” in the Bible are a symbol of authority and power.  The number 7 represents perfection and completion  So these 7 horns speaks of his omnipotence

E. Notice the Lamb’s presences

seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God sent forth into all the earth. (Rev 5:6-7) And I beheld, and, lo, in the midst of the throne and of the four beasts, and in the midst of the elders, stood a Lamb as it had been slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God sent forth into all the earth. And he came and took the book out of the right hand of him that sat upon the throne.

 His seven eyes are the 7 spirits of God as we have seen multiple times in this study.  Why “eyes” and how does this fit the context of chapter 5?

they are the eyes of the LORD, which run to and fro through the whole earth (Zec 4:10) For who hath despised the day of small things? for they shall rejoice, and shall see the plummet in the hand of Zerubbabel with those seven; they are the eyes of the LORD, which run to and fro through the whole earth.

(Pro 15:3) The eyes of the LORD are in every place, beholding the evil and the good. (Heb 4:13) Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do.

 To put it in context. The scroll that the Lamb will open, will set off the tribulation, which is him pouring his judgment on the earth.

F. Notice the how the Lamb prevails

And he came and took the book out of the right hand of him that sat upon the throne (Rev 5:6-7) And I beheld, and, lo, in the midst of the throne and of the four beasts, and in the midst of the elders, stood a Lamb as it had been slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God sent forth into all the earth. And he came and took the book out of the right hand of him that sat upon the throne.

VI. The doxology that comes from the opening of the scroll

(Rev 5:8-14) And when he had taken the book, the four beasts and four and twenty elders fell down before the Lamb, having every one of them harps, and golden vials full of odours, which are the prayers of saints. And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation; And hast made us unto our God kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth. And I beheld, and I heard the voice of many angels round about the throne and the beasts and the elders: and the number of them was ten thousand times ten thousand, and thousands of thousands; Saying with a loud voice, Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power, and riches, and wisdom, and strength, and honour, and glory, and blessing. And every creature which is in heaven, and on the earth, and under the earth, and such as are in the sea, and all that are in them, heard I saying, Blessing, and honour, and glory, and power, be unto him that sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb for ever and ever. And the four beasts said, Amen. And the four and twenty elders fell down and worshipped him that liveth for ever and ever.
