Fractions, Decimals, and Percents
2
Percents as Decimals To write a percent as a decimal, divide by 100 and remove the percent symbol. Example 1: 63% 63 ÷ 100 = The decimal moves two places to the left, and you remove the percent symbol. 0.63
3
Decimals as Percents To write a decimal as a percent, multiply by 100 and add the percent symbol. Example 2: 0.45 0.45 (100) = The decimal moves two places to the right, and you add the percent symbol. 45%
4
Fractions as Percents Method 1: Use a proportion by setting the fraction equal to and solve for x. Then add a percent symbol to your answer. Example 3: Write as a percent. 3(100) = 8x 37.5 = x 37.5%
5
Fractions as Percents Method 2: Write as a decimal by dividing the numerator by the denominator. Then multiply your answer by 100 and add a percent symbol. Example 3: Write as a percent. 8 3.000 - 24 60 - 56 40 - 40 0 0.375(100) = 0.375 37.5%

Percent & Decimal Examples Example 4 Change the following percent to a decimal. 89% Example 5 Change the following decimal to a percent. 0.13 Divide by 100, or move the decimal two places to the left. 89 ÷ 100 = 0.890.13(100) = 13 13% Multiply by 100, or move the decimal two places to the right. Then add the percent symbol.
