September 2, 2015 Please pick up a worksheet and glue it in on page 13 of your ISN. Head page 12 of your ISN “Measurement Lab.” Goal: Explain the difference between quantitative and qualitative data.
2
Measurement (Qualitative vs. Quantitative Data) Lab ISN page 12
3
Data can be Quantitative or Qualitative Write the following definitions on ISN 12. Quantitative - observations with numbers Qualitative – Observations about characteristics. E.g. color
4
Under your definitions of qualitative and quantitative, write and answer the following question. Answer: What do you think is more important for scientists to collect, qualitative or quantitative data?
5
Think of some ways scientists may collect qualitative and quantitative data.

On ISN 12 Write the following five times Station: Object: Observations 1 2 3 4
8
Stations You will have 3 minutes at each station. I will give you an additional 3 minutes at the end to revisit a station. Follow the instructions at the station then make three additional observations about each object. Determine if the observation is qualitative or quantitative. Do not make an inference during this time. Do not move to the next station until the timer goes off.

Post-Lab Question At the bottom of your paper Answer: How do you use qualitative and quantitative data in everyday life?
