2 Checks and Balances As a responsible citizen, you understand that the constitutional principle of checks and balances protects the three branches of government. What is the principle of checks and balances? What are the three branches of government?

3 You will 1.Choose a particular administration, court, or congress 2.Evaluate whether checks and balances prevented one branch from exercising too much power 3.State a position based on your evaluation

4 4.Research and describe the background of the administration, court, or congress you selected. Support your position! 5.Explain by using at least 2 examples of how one branch checked or could have checked another during this time. Support your position!

5 6.Evaluate whether one branch increased its power relative to another. Provide at least 2 examples to support your position. 7.Make explicit references to 3 or more credible sources within your paper. 8. Create a bibliography using MLA.

6 Government Revenue and Responsibility As a responsible citizen, you understand how government raises and spends money to implement policies and programs.

7 You will 1.Select a particular policy or program 2.Research the policy or program 3.State a position evaluating the government collection of revenue and expenditures related to your policy/program. Include a conclusion about how studying this policy/program helps you understand other policies/programs.

8 4.Write a general overview of the program 5.Analyze how stakeholders have influenced government revenue collection and expenditure for your program/policy. Give at least 2 examples. 6.Explain who pays for and who benefits from the collection of revenue and expenditures. Give an example of who benefits and another example of who pays. 7.Cite sources within the paper and in a bibliography.
