2 A Little History Halifax, is the capital region of Nova Scotia The town was created in 1749 by Governor Edward Cornwallis and 2500 settlers It was Canada’s first permanent British town

3 Citadel Hill To defend Halifax, British military authorities built a series of fortifications. Completed in 1856, this massive, star- shaped, masonry fortification took 28 years to build Though it was never attacked, the fort was garrisoned by the British Army until 1906 and by Canadian Forces during the First and Second World Wars. Citadel Hill is recognized as one of the most important historic sites in Canada

4 The Town Clock Built by Prince Edward in 1803 Constructed to ensure that the soldiers and townspeople were always on time. There is a clock face on every side, 4 faces in all. The bells ring every 15 minutes and the clock must still be wound twice a week to keep it functioning. The Town Clock is an important part of Halifax History.

5 On September 29 th, 2003, Halifax experienced the effects of Hurricane Juan. The city was shut down over a week just to clean up the mess. There are still many scars of earth left where trees used to be. Come see the extreme impact this force had on Halifax. Halifax Weather – Hurricane Juan

6 Halifax Weather – White Juan From February 18 th to 20 th, Halifax experienced over 90cm of snow in one of the most intense blizzards our city has ever seen. Again, the city was shut down for over a week just to clear the roads and allow people to leave their houses.

7 Casino Nova Scotia Casino Nova Scotia is a multi million dollar facility. It is not exclusive to gambling, there are also 4 restaurants, an array of performances and a hotel with a pool.

8 Hockey Games Come watch Halifax’s local hockey team, the Halifax Mooseheads. Past players include Jean- Sebastien Giguere, Jody Shelley, Alex Tanguay,Martin Bilodeau all of which are in the NHL today.

9 Halifax Metro Centre Located next to Citadel Hill, the Halifax Metro Center has hosted a number of events since it was built in 1978. It has seating for 10500 people including floor seats for some events, lower and upper bowl and skybox.

10 Metro Centre Events The Metro Centre has facilitated many events over the years, including: The Nova Scotia International Tattoo The World Women’s Hockey Championship Mooseheads Hockey Games Many Musical Icons Expos and Musicals World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE)

11 Halifax Buskers Festival Every August, for 11 days, the buskers street performers come to Halifax. They perform on a 1 km stretch along the downtown Halifax waterfront.

12 More Buskers Filled with entertainment for audiences of all ages, the buskers wages consist of gratuities only. With fire and sword swallowers, jugglers and acrobats, this circus like festival is truly a Maritime tradition worth coming to.
