Topic 3:Cultural Revolution The cultural revolution was launched by Mao Ze Dong on May 16, 1966 He was worried that the spirit of communism would vanish under Liu Shaoqi and Deng Xiaoping. There was also another concern in Mao that he would lose his power and influence on the people of China. He also had a belief that cultural revolution was a continual process and it could not stop.

Topic 3:Cultural Revolution The aim of it is to purge capitalist thought from the country It involved major violent changes being made to the political, economic and social nature of China. Mao insisted, with his theory of continuing revolution, that these elements should be removed through revolutionary violent class struggle by mobilizing China's youth. Those youths who, responded to his appeal, then formed Red Guard groups around the whole country.

Topic 3:Cultural Revolution Mao officially declared the end of Cultural Revolution in 1966. However, its active phase lasted until the death of the government figure Lin Biao in a plane crash in 1971. The power struggles and political instability between 1969 and the arrest of the Gang of Four in 1976 are now also widely regarded as part of the Revolution.
