General Application Lots of people use it to do lots of different things. The tasks performed are similar to tasks performed by other general applications

General Application Tasks Create a New Document Save a Document Load a Document Print a Document Edit a Document

Create a New Document Start with a blank document space in memory and create a new item from scratch

Save a Document Take the document in computer Memory and place a copy of it in Storage

Load A Document Take a document in Storage and put a copy in Memory

Print a Document Take a document (usually in memory) and put a copy of it usually on paper

Edit a Document Modify a document that is in memory by: – Adding more to it – Removing some of it – Changing part of it

Common Interface Most Microsoft office applications use common command methods. – The menus look alike – The tasks are similar – Thus learning one application shows you how to perform with another application.

Common Hot Keys Short cut command keys are consistent from one application to the next – For example Ctrl-C copies a block of text Ctrl-V pastes a block of text Ctrl-P prints a document Ctrl-N starts a new document

Customizing Your Word I have modified my version of Word because of the specialized writing that I do. For example, here is part of a homework assignment in one of my classes. P Q ( P Q) These mathematical symbols were inserted by defining macro keys within word This method is useful in both science and foreign languages
