The U.S. Department of Education…… “We are calling on states and districts to develop and implement systems of teacher and principal evaluation and support, and to identify effective and highly effective teachers and principals on the basis of student growth and other factors.” 4

No specific system is required; however, all teacher and principal evaluation systems must meet the six guidelines for educator evaluation. Kansas Educator Evaluation Protocol (KEEP) is a model which districts may use. All adopted evaluation systems will be peer reviewed and approved by KSDE to ensure each of the six guidelines are addressed. 5

Implement teacher & principal evaluation & support systems that: Use for continual improvement of instruction Use at least 3 performance levels Use multiple measures including student growth as significant factor Evaluate on a regular basis Provide clear, timely, and useful feedback Use to inform personnel decisions 6
