3 Idaho Reading Indicator (IRI)
Grades K-3. Individual reading test administered three times/year. was a new test and new baseline. Scores: 3 – Benchmark (At Grade Level) 2 – Strategic (Near Grade Level) 1 – Intensive (Below Grade Level) On Target: Reach the Spring Benchmark or Increase the percentage of students meeting Benchmark (3) by 5% from Fall to Spring.

35 ESEA and AYP The Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) requires that all: students meet the standards for reading and math by 2014. schools demonstrate adequate yearly progress (AYP) toward achieving that goal.

37 ESEA and AYP Facts Eighth year held accountable for Elementary and
Secondary Education Act (ESEA / Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP). 41 targets to meet proficiency benchmarks. Entire student population – or any one of the subgroups – does not meet targets, school is deemed not to have made AYP. AYP is only one measure of a school’s success.

The Pocatello/Chubbuck School District was selected for the “What Parents Want” award by School Match Based on: competitive test scores accreditation recognition for excellence by a national foundation competitive teacher salaries average instructional expenditures library/media services class size Only 16% of the nation’s school districts have received this recognition

50 CELEBRATE! We are continuing to “Maximize Learning For All Students Through Rigor, Relevancy, and Relationships” Two high school students selected as recipients of a National Merit $2500 US Presidential Scholar award. Franklin Middle School students took first place team in the regional MATHCOUNTS competition.

51 CELEBRATE! We are continuing to “Maximize Learning For All Students Through Rigor, Relevancy, and Relationships” Highland High School’s debate team took 1st place in Sweeps at the prestigious Whitman College Debate Tournament. Pocatello High School placed 3rd in the School of Excellence initiative.

52 CELEBRATE! We are continuing to “Maximize Learning For All Students Through Rigor, Relevancy, and Relationships” A Professional/Technical Education student won a silver medal at the National SkillsUSA competition in the Advertising Design category, which earned him several scholarships. Nine Professional/Technical Education students won 12 medals at the spring SkillsUSA conference and two students were elected State Officers.

53 CELEBRATE! We are continuing to “Maximize Learning For All Students Through Rigor, Relevancy, and Relationships” Three high school students were selected from more than 700 applicants state-wide to receive the Governor’s Cup Scholarship. The Pocatello High School Business Professionals of America students took first place and won the Professional Cup at their State competition.

54 CELEBRATE! We are continuing to “Maximize Learning For All Students Through Rigor, Relevancy, and Relationships” Four high school athletic teams were named State Academic Champions. Eight teachers were recognized as Outstanding Teachers in their respective specialties by state and national organizations. Over 300 students took concurrent enrollment courses and earned college credits while attending high school. Eighty-two students graduated with Highest Honors. District graduation rate is 94.9% and graduation rates continue to increase year to year.
