3 Purpose Upgrade the connection to the Internet and the MIMCom network at the malaria research site in Manhica, Mozambique.

4 Background The Multilateral Initiative on Malaria (MIM) work to strengthen and support malaria research in endemic countries, especially in Africa where the problems with the disease are the greatest.

5 Background Since 1997, MIM has connected 17 research sites in Africa to the Internet and the MIMCom network.

6 Background However, the connection at the site in Manhica is only 64 Kbps, which is insufficient for the daily work. It therefore has to be upgraded.

7 Background This will mainly be done by the design and implementation of a cost-effective and innovative technical solution that is suitable for the specific needs and settings at the site.

8 Possible solutions Upgrade the existing connection to ISP in Maputo. Establish new connection to local ISP. VSAT solution at research site.
