Lab Equipments
3
1. Test Tubes 13 x 100 mm test tubes 10 x 75 mm test tubes Ignition tube Used for chemicals to mix or reaction
4
2. Test Tube Tong/Holder A test tube tong/holder is useful for holding a test tube which is too hot to handle.
5
3. Beaker Beakers hold solids or liquids that will not release gases when reacted or are unlikely to splatter if stirred or heated.
6
4. Petri Dish A petri dish is a shallow glass or plastic cylindrical lidded dish that biologists use to culture cells or bacteria
7
5. Triple Beam Balance is used to measure mass
8
6. Rubber Stoppers Rubber stoppers are used to close containers to avoid spillage or contamination. Containers should never be heated when there is a stopper in place.
9
A medicine dropper is used to transfer a small volume of liquid (less than one mL). On top of each medicine dropper is a “rubber bulb” 7. Medicine Dropper
10
8.Spatula Spatulas are used to dispense solid chemicals from their containers. Chemicals should never be transferred with your bare hands.
11
9. Clay Triangle The clay triangle is used as a support for porcelein crucibles when being heated over a Bunsen burner.
12
10. Apron Lab aprons are synthetic rubber coated and is acid-resistant, alcohol-resistant and has a better oil-resistance than natural rubber.
13
11. Goggles PROTECT YOURPROTECT YOUR
14
12. Funnel A funnel is used to aid in the transfer of liquid from one vessel to another.
15
13. Bunsen Burner Bunsen burners are used for the heating of nonvolatile liquids and solids.
16
14. Hot plate used in laboratory settings to heat glassware
17
15. Erlenmeyer Flask Erlenmeyer flasks hold solids or liquids that may release gases during a reaction or that are likely to splatter if stirred or heated.
18
16. Thermometer is a device that measures temperature
19
17. Crucible Crucibles are used for heating certain solids, particularly metals, to very high temperatures.
20
18. Ring clamp Iron rings connect to a ringstand and provide a stable, elevated platform for the reaction.
21
Ringstands and their Components 19. Utility Clamps Utility clamps are used to secure test tubes, flasks, etc. to the ring stand
22
20. Dilution Tray/Spot Plate Is used to perform serial dilution often used for qualitative analysis. The wells (or spots) are used to perform reactions on a very small amount of materials
23
21. Mortar and Pestle To crush solid into powder
24
Ringstands and their Components 22.Wire Gauze Wire gauze sits on the iron ring to provide a place to stand a beaker. On older wire gauze, the white material is asbestos!
25
23. Evaporating Dish The evaporating dish is used for the heating of stable solid or liquid compounds and elements.
26
24. Watch Glass A watch glass is used to hold a small amount of solid, such as the product of a reaction. To observe a chemical reaction
27
25. Crucible Tongs For handling hot crucibles; also used to pick up other hot objects. NOT to be used for picking up beakers!
28
26. Test Tube Racks Test tube racks are for holding and organizing test tubes on the laboratory counter.
29
27. Graduated Cylinder A graduated cylinder is used to measure volumes of liquids.
30
28. Burette is used to dispense known amounts of a liquid reagent in experiments
31
Ringstands and their Components 29. Burette Clamps Burette clamps are used to clamp burettes – long graduated tubes used in titration.
32
30. Ringstands and their Components Ringstands are a safe and convenient way to perform reactions that require heating using a Bunsen burner.
33
31. Squirt or Wash Bottle A wash bottle has a spout that delivers a wash solution to a specific area. Distilled water is the only liquid that should be used in a wash bottle.
34
32. Test Tube Brushes Test tube brushes are used to clean test tubes and graduated cylinders. Forcing a large brush into a small test tube will often break the tube.
35
33.Forceps Forceps (or tweezers) are used to pick up small objects.
36
34. Gloves For handling hot objects
37
35. Pipette The pipette is used for transfering small amounts of liquid from place to place. They are usually made of plastic and are disposable
38
36.Scoopula Scoopula are used to dispense solid chemicals from their containers. Chemicals should never be transferred with your bare hands.
39
