Cryonics: The mysterious new medical technology Zheng Qin Arizona State University

2 What is Cryonics? Cryonics is a advanced technology that freeze and keep someone's body and let them come back to life in the future. But it still have some technical defects. What can Cryonics do for humans? Some incurable patients could choose this way to wait for medical technologies in the future. Cryonics also can help soldiers to get timely treatment from battles. And astronauts may be frozen and be sent to space. That will not only save food and water, but also kill the long and boring time in the trip through the universe. The first frozen people is Dr. James Bedford. (1967) Reference:(q10,Who Have Been Cryonically Preserved, mentalfloss,2014)

3 As an advanced technology, it still have technical defects: 1, high prices. There are two big cryonics organizations in United States: Alcor Life Extension Foundation (Arizona) and Cryonics Institute (Michigan). From Alcor's website, I found the price below: Only rich people can afford such high price!!

2, technologies unreliable (both freeze and defrost could cause irreparable damages) It is well known that whether in outside of cells or inside there are lots of water, when the water freezes, it will form many ice crystals and they may impale cell membrane. And low temperature may cause cell dehydration and finally kill them. Although scientists find some cryoprotectants, it cannot solve the problem radically. It is hard to freeze bodies perfectly, but it is more difficult to heat frozen bodies perfectly. Frozen body is very fragile, uneven heating will cause crumble. But different organs have different "best freezing temperature", so the difficulty of defrosting is unthinkable! Reference:(Cryonics,wikipedia,2014) and (CRYONICS & SCIENCE,Alcor Life Extension Foundation,2013)

Conclusion/Recommendation 3, humanities elements (immaterial) There is a question that is very often overlooked by scientists: If frozen people come back to life in the future, can they readjust to future life? Their property values may be falling and personal and cultural values may be far behind, and people may treat them peculiar, can they readjust to the new life? The worst result may be suicide. And maybe because of the population explosion, the future people do not want to resurrect them.
